Real Madrid are on the verge of completing the signing of highly rated RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande after the player reportedly turned down interest from Paris Saint-Germain in favour of a move to the Santiago Bernabéu.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, negotiations between Real Madrid and RB Leipzig have reached an advanced stage, with the Spanish club expected to finalise a deal worth approximately €130 million. The transfer could be completed this week, allowing the teenage forward to join the squad before the start of the new season.
Diomande had attracted strong interest from several of Europe’s top clubs during the summer transfer window, with PSG considered one of the leading contenders for his signature.
Romano reports that the French champions explored a swap deal with RB Leipzig that would have involved academy prospect Ibrahim Mbaye moving in the opposite direction. The proposal was designed to provide Leipzig with a promising replacement while enabling PSG to secure one of Europe’s most sought-after young attackers.
However, the negotiations did not progress, with Diomande reportedly making it clear that his preferred destination was Real Madrid.
The player’s desire to join the Spanish giants is understood to have played a significant role in advancing Madrid’s negotiations with Leipzig. Personal terms are not expected to be an obstacle as the club moves closer to completing the transfer.
PSG had previously questioned reports surrounding the financial details of the proposed move, insisting that some of the figures being circulated did not reflect the club’s position. The failed pursuit is another chapter in the ongoing rivalry between the French champions and Real Madrid, who have frequently competed for high-profile transfer targets in recent years.
For Real Madrid, the signing would represent another major investment in young talent as the club continues its long-term squad-building strategy. Diomande is regarded as one of the brightest emerging wingers in European football and is expected to add pace, creativity and attacking depth to the squad.
The reported transfer fee of more than €130 million would make him one of the most expensive signings in the club’s history, bringing significant expectations despite his young age.
An official announcement is expected once the remaining details between the two clubs are finalised. If completed, Diomande will become Real Madrid’s latest marquee addition ahead of the new campaign, with the club hoping he can develop into a key figure for years to come.
