Inter Milan have turned down a huge €40 million offer from Premier League club Brentford for young midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic, showing they have no plans to sell one of their brightest talents this summer.
According to GOAL, Brentford made the big-money offer after being impressed by the 20-year-old’s performances during his loan spell in Belgium. However, Inter quickly rejected the bid because new head coach Cristian Chivu sees Stankovic as an important part of the club’s future.
Stankovic is the son of former Inter captain Dejan Stankovic, who enjoyed a successful career with the Italian giants. The younger Stankovic has followed in his father’s footsteps and is now earning praise for his own performances in midfield.
Last season, the Serbian youngster spent time on loan in the Belgian top flight, where he impressed with his calm passing, strong defensive work and ability to control the pace of matches. His displays attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, but Brentford made the strongest move with a reported €40 million bid.
Despite the size of the offer, Inter are determined to keep the midfielder. The club believes he has the quality to become a regular starter and wants him to play a key role under Chivu, who is building a younger squad ahead of the new Serie A season.
The decision to reject Brentford’s offer also sends a message to other clubs that Inter are not interested in selling their top young players. Instead, the club wants to develop its academy talents and build a team that can compete for major trophies in Italy and Europe.
For Brentford, missing out on Stankovic means they may now have to look elsewhere as they continue searching for midfield reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
Inter supporters are likely to welcome the club’s decision. Many fans have been excited by Stankovic’s progress and hope he can establish himself in the first team this season. With Chivu placing his trust in young players, the midfielder could soon get the opportunity to prove himself on one of football’s biggest stages.
If Stankovic continues his rapid development, Inter’s decision to reject such a large offer could prove to be one of the smartest moves of the summer transfer window.
